New study by GSD Teaching Fellow examines abandoned fishing gear and its impact on coastal livelihoods in Cameroon

Maurice Beseng has published a new open-access article in the leading peer-reviewed journal Marine Policy, which is published by Elsevier.

The article, titled ‘Managing abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear in Cameroon’s marine small-scale fisheries: Perspective of local ecological knowledge’, explores the growing global challenge posed by abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear, and its contribution to multiple sustainability challenges including plastic pollution, damage to marine ecosystems, and threats to coastal livelihoods and food security.

Collective SCFS consortium secures new partnership with Coventry City Council to transform local green and blue spaces

A project co-supervised by a member of our teaching faculty has received significant funding from Innovate UK as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).

Dr Jonathan Clarke, who leads on our Sustainable Cities and Living with Water undergraduate modules, received the grant as part of a partnership with Professor Juanita Elias (International Political Economy, University of Warwick) and Reall – a registered charity and not-for-profit company, whose mission is to build affordable housing in urban Africa and Asia.

GSD hosts climate politics expert for talk on ‘eco-anxiety’

The Global Sustainable Development department recently welcomed Dr Giovanni Bettini to present his research on ‘eco-anxiety’ and how it can be addressed collectively. The talk was organised following feedback from our current Global Sustainable Development Undergraduate SSLC, who had requested more academic discussions around the mental health implications and psychological impact of climate change.
