WMG’s AI Day connects students with industry innovation

Academics at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) hosted the department’s first dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) day, at the University of Warwick, in collaboration with NVIDIA and Dell Technologies.

With AI rapidly transforming industries and reshaping research, innovation, and skills development worldwide, the event was spearheaded by Dr Awinder Kaur, Head of Digital Technologies and Machine Intelligence across all education programmes at WMG.

Following discussions with representatives from NVIDIA and Dell about WMG’s AI vision, Dr Kaur identified the need for a strategic academia-industry engagement event focusing solely on AI.

Celebrating graduation at WMG

WMG staff and students came together to honour the outstanding achievements of the class of 2026 at University of Warwick’s Winter Graduation.

Graduation is a defining moment in the University’s calendar — and the culmination of ambition, resilience, and hard work.

This year’s winter celebrations saw more than 1,100 WMG students receive their degrees.

Cheers of celebration echoed across campus as staff and students celebrated the achievements of the latest cohort of graduates from WMG, University of Warwick. A highlight of the University calendar and the pinnacle of every student’s academic journey, this year’s summer degree congregations saw 305 students awarded their degrees from WMG.

Creating a community for women in trade

Representatives from the world of trade gathered for the inaugural launch of a new organisation which aims to support women in trade and address the export gap.

The Women in Trade Hub UK (WiTH UK), created by WMG, University of Warwick with the support of the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade, aims to create a community, bringing together existing resources while being responsive to the needs of female entrepreneurs.

Barriers to break

Noting that women face “systemic barriers” in business and trade, Dr Rebecca Wilde, Head of Business Innovation, Supply Chain and Trade at WMG, University of Warwick, said that WiTH UK will serve as a community that can “empower women, and empower men who support women, in trade management and operational roles.”

Highlighting the many “great organisations out there globally that support women in trade,” Dr Wilde said there’s a lot of work to be done to boost the proportion of women-led trading SMEs and women in senior positions at larger trading organisations.

WMG Master’s course ranked QS top 5 in the world

WMG celebrates outstanding achievements at Winter Graduation

Congratulations to the WMG graduates who celebrated their achievements at the University of Warwick's Winter Ceremonies.

A total of 1307 Master’s, Postgraduate Research and Undergraduate students graduated from across WMG Including:

1,212 Master’s students; with 1,123 of those full-time, 38 part-time, and 51 studying overseas.

11 PhD students and one EngD student

83 Undergraduate students from Applied Engineering; Digital and Technology Solutions; Cyber Security; and Digital Healthcare Science

At the event, keynote speeches were delivered by members of the WMG alumni community - Dr Andy Palmer CMG, MSc Manufacturing Systems Engineering, (1990), former COO at Nissan and President & Group CEO of Aston Martin; Paul Faithfull MSc/EngD Engineering (UK), (1997), Chairman, Watt Electric Vehicles and Jim Shaw, MSc Engineering Business Management, (1996), Chief Experience Officer, bloom³.

Celebrating excellence: WMG hosts annual Scholarship Dinner

WMG at the University of Warwick celebrated the success of its full-time Master’s students at the annual Scholarship Dinner on Thursday 16 January 2025.

The event was held to celebrate the achievements of the scholars, with over 178 from 46 countries attending, and gave them the opportunity to network with peers and faculty members.

WMG’s prestigious departmental scholarships are merit-based awards, offering tuition fee discounts to outstanding candidates. Among this year’s scholars, 135 were recipients of the highly competitive WMG Excellence Scholarship.

Additionally, 63 students were supported by over 20 international funding bodies, including governments, charities, development funds, and industry organisations. Notable among these were Chevening Scholars, funded by the UK Government Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

WMG Industrial Professor Sebastian Conran delivers inaugural lecture

On 14 January 2025, WMG at The University of Warwick hosted the inaugural lecture of award-winning designer and WMG Industrial Professor, Sebastian Conran.

The lecture was held in the Design Showroom in the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC), with an audience of design and engineering partners, staff and students.

The evening was opened by Professor Robin Clark, Dean of WMG, who spoke about the future of the manufacturing industry and the need for designers and engineers to work together seamlessly to meet society’s challenges. Professor Clark highlighted Sebastian Conran’s work in the design engineering space, and his role in the development of WMG’s new Master’s in Engineering Design Management.

Sebastian’s lecture, titled ‘Engineering Emotional Experiences’ - Lessons in Collaborative Implementation of Innovation, took the audience on a journey from his early years growing up and wanting to be an inventor, to his teenage years stacking shelves at Habitat, his time at art school studying industrial design engineering, and his career where he’s seen thousands of products through from concept to consumer.

WMG expands postgraduate education portfolio

WMG at the University of Warwick has added three new courses, to its Master's education portfolio, in AI; engineering design and digital healthcare.

From September 2025, WMG is now offering:

MSc Applied Artificial Intelligence  (AAI)

This programme is designed to meet the booming demand for AI specialists. With artificial intelligence transforming industries and creating new career paths, the course emphasises real-world applications, ethics, and AI-driven decision-making.

MSc Engineering Design Management  (EDM)

EDM targets professionals who want to combine technical engineering knowledge with advanced management skills. This course is tailored to produce graduates capable of overseeing complex design processes while managing teams and resources efficiently.

MSc Digital Transformation for Healthcare  (DTH)

This course has been designed to respond to the growing demand for digital innovation in healthcare. With an emphasis on using digital tools to improve patient care, data management, and healthcare delivery, this programme is intended for both healthcare professionals and those in technology roles who wish to make an impact in healthcare systems.

This is a collaborative programme delivered by WMG, Warwick Medical School, and the NHS.

WMG graduates celebrate success at Warwick's 2024 Summer Graduation Ceremony

WMG at the University of Warwick celebrated the achievements of its latest cohort of graduates during the 2024 Summer Graduation Ceremonies. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for many talented individuals who have excelled in their academic pursuits.

A total of 490 students received their degrees across various levels including Master’s; Postgraduate Research, and Undergraduate programmes.

Among the Master’s graduates, there were 380 students: 129 studied full-time, 25 part-time, and 226 completed their degrees overseas.

From the Postgraduate Research programme 23 students graduated: 20 PhD recipients and three EngD students.

For Undergraduate students there was a total of 87 students. This included 44 who earned a BSc in Cyber Security, 11 with a BSc in Digital Healthcare Science, and from the Degree Apprenticeship pathway – a further 32 with a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions.

The ceremony held on Friday 26 July 2024, featured an inspiring speech by WMG alumnus Dr Graham Hoare OBE (MSc Engineering Business Management, 1993). His address had a lasting impact on the graduates motivating them as they step into their future careers.

Professor Robin Clark, Dean of WMG, expressed his pride in the graduates, saying: “Your dedication and remarkable achievements have enriched our community and set a high standard of excellence. I am incredibly proud of what you have accomplished, and excited to see the heights you will reach in the future. Congratulations to all of you.”

Professor Clark added, “Graduation is not the end but the beginning of a lifelong connection with WMG and the University of Warwick. As part of a global network of over 285,000 alumni, including more than 29,000 WMG graduates, you have endless opportunities to stay connected, build new relationships, and continue growing both personally and professionally.”

Professor Steve Maggs, Director of Alumni and Industry Engagement, also praised the graduates, stating: “As you embark on your new journeys, we celebrate not just your academic success but also the perseverance and commitment that got you here. This year’s class, showcases the diversity and strength of our WMG community.”
