      <title>The Department of Education Studies welcomes three new academic staff members</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;We are delighted to welcome three new members of staff, &lt;b&gt;Dr Georgiana Mihut, Dr Jamie Burford and Dr Tom Perry.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr Georgiana Mihut&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Before joining the department, Georgiana worked for Ireland's Economic and Social Research Institute, the American Council on Education, and the Boston College Centre for International Higher Education. Her research interests include comparative and international higher education, tertiary education policy, and access, equity, and stratification in education.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr Jamie Burford&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;James (Jamie) arrives to Warwick following on from academic postings at La Trobe University in Australia and Thammasat University in Thailand. He is interested in doctoral education, global higher education, the geopolitics of knowledge production, academic im/mobilities, and gender and sexuality in educational contexts. Jamie will be the new course leader for the MA programme, 'Global Education and International Development'.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr Tom Perry&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Tom is joining us from the University of Birmingham, where he led the educational leadership master's programmes and taught about research methods and the use of research and evidence for educational improvement. He is interested in methodological and practical questions relating to research- and evidence-informed policy and practice. He specialises in research review and synthesis, secondary and quantitative data analysis, evaluation, and practitioner enquiry.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>The Sheikh Family Scholarship</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;We are pleased to announce The Sheikh Family Scholarship is now formally open to exceptional students on the Postgraduate Award in Islamic Education. The scholarship is available from the generous donation from COSARAF Foundation &lt;a href="https://www.cosaraf.org/"&gt;https://www.cosaraf.org/&lt;/a&gt; to enable students who are facing financial hardship to continue on to the MA Religions, Society &amp;amp; Education (Islamic Education) programme at Centre for Education Studies. Successful candidates will be first-generation university students and who demonstrate the scholarship will make the most difference. For 2018, the invitation for applicants extends only to students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Award in Islamic Education and have been accepted onto the MA Religions, Society &amp;amp; Education (Islamic Education).       <title>Dr Emily Henderson Renews Collaboration with University of the Free State, South Africa</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Dr Emily Henderson joined the SARChI Chair Higher Education and Human Development Research Programme at University of the Free State, South Africa, on a funded institutional visit for a week in September 2018. Dr Henderson was affiliated with the programme during her doctoral studies at UCL Institute of Education, and was recently invited to attend a week of activities to renew the collaboration. During the visit, Dr Henderson acted as discussant for an international colloquium, delivered a workshop on intersectionality for students and postdoctoral fellows in the programme, and attended meetings to further discuss collaboration with Professor Melanie Walker and Dr Mikateko H&#246;ppener.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
