During the summer 2016 Farhana Hamid Butt received a vacation scholarship from the Warwick Multicultural Scholars’ Programme and volunteered with Global Vision International (GVI) on a women's empowerment project in Kerala, India.

Writing Wrongs Essay Competition Winners

On Saturday 23rd April, the Law School's Widening Participation team hosted the prize giving event of the inaugural 'Writing Wrongs' essay competition. Since November, we have been working with 25 pupils from non-traditional backgrounds from eight schools in Coventry and Warwickshire through a series of Saturday workshops in order to improve their research skills and write a 2,500 word essay on the theme of social justice.

MSP Scholars attend Insight Day with Gowling WLG

On 24 February 2016, a group of 18 law students on the Multicultural Scholars’ Programme (MSP) attended an ‘Insight Day’ at Gowling WLG (formerly Wragge Lawrence Graham), solicitors, Birmingham.

The day included a networking lunch with current trainees where scholars could learn first-hand about daily life in a large law firm. Caty Scott, Gowlings’ Graduate Recruitment Advisor, conducted a workshop outlining the training contract application process, providing detailed and excellent advice on the hallmarks of a good application and the skills and knowledge required to excel in the group recruitment events and the partner interview.

MSP Law is very grateful to Gowlings, one of our corporate donors, for providing this hugely beneficial opportunity to our scholars.

MSP Scholar receives Commonwealth's International Award for Dynamic Leadership and Service to Young People

One of our 2nd year MSP scholars, Messeh Leone, was the recipient of the Commonwealth's International Award for Dynamic Leadership and Service to Young People. He received his award at a special award ceremony in Malta in November 2015 as part of the Commonwealth Youth Forum which took place on the fringes of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Spaces Available on Law School’s Multicultural Scholars’ Programme

The Multicultural Scholars’ Programme supports academically talented, low-income British students from poorly represented ethic groups. Support is offered via a package of holistic support, including a financial scholarship, pastoral guidance and careers advice. The MSP has gained considerable support from firms and companies, both regionally and nationally, providing opportunities for mentoring, funding, internships and advice from experts in their field.

Law School MSP Student wins Middle Temple 'Access to the Bar' Award

Law School MSP student, Farhana Hamid Butt, has won a Middle Temple 'Michael Sherrard Access to the Bar' Award.

The purpose of these awards is to encourage able students from underrepresented backgrounds with the potential to be successful barristers to make a more informed choice about a career at the Bar. The award winners gain experience of what a career at the Bar involves via one week’s work experience in a set of barristers’ chambers and one week’s marshalling.

To win one of these awards is a great achievement in a highly competitive process as only 13 awards are available each year. It is very well deserved given Farhana's dedication and hard work.

MSP Visit to Clifford Chance

A group of students from the Law School’s Multicultural Scholars’ Programme (MSP) were invited to visit the UK headquarters of Clifford Chance on Wednesday 4^th March. The visit included an application workshop, a networking lunch with current trainees (including Warwick/MSP graduates), a tour of the building and a talk on the relationship between law, business and human rights.

Law School MSP Student awarded Giving to Warwick Prize

Law School MSP student Aneesa Khan was awarded a Giving to Warwick prize last week for Widening Participation work. It is a great achievement and very well deserved given Aneesa's dedication to the Law School and the University's Widening Participation agenda.
