A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme: Upcoming planned road closures

We would like to inform staff and students of upcoming road closures as part of the A46 Stoneleigh Junction Improvement Scheme.

To safely carry out essential works, Stoneleigh Road bridge over the A46 will be closed on the following dates:

30th and 31st May 2026
26th and 29th June 2026
3rd and 6th July 2026
25th and 26th July 2026

A signed diversion route will be in place during these closures (see image below).

These works are being carried out to support improvements to the A46 Stoneleigh Junction and may impact journeys to and from campus. Please allow additional travel time and plan your route accordingly.

Closure of Dalehouse Lane: Tuesday 7 April 26 - Monday 7 June 2027

From Tuesday 7 April 2026 until 6pm on Monday 7 June 2027, a 14-month road closure will be in place on Dalehouse Lane to allow construction of a new overbridge that will carry the road over the HS2 railway. During this period, there will be increased construction activity and some disruption to travel times. Please plan your journeys in advance to avoid delays. A fully signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure.

Temporary road closure on Cromwell Lane, Burton green: 07/04/2026 - 30/08/2026

Cromwell Lane in Burton Green will be closed from 8am on Tuesday 7 April to 6pm on Sunday 30 August 2026 to enable utility connection works, road surfacing and reinstatement. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout the work with a fully signed diversion route.

A46 overnight closure of the south bound slip road 29 January

From 8pm on Thursday 29 January to 6am on Friday 30 January, the southbound slip road of the A46 at the Stoneleigh Junction will be closed to support HS2 planting and drainage works. For further information, please visit the website here.

Temporary closure of A429 Kenilworth Road: 8th December - 19th December 2025

From 8am on Monday 8 December to 6pm on Friday 19 December 2025, the A429 Kenilworth Road in Kenilworth will be closed to allow final surfacing works to the foot and cycleway and the completion of expansion joints. A fully signed diversion will be in place to assist drivers, and access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout.

Temporary closure of A429 Kenilworth Road: Wed 29 Oct - Fri 31 Oct 25

From Wednesday 29 October - Friday 31 October 2025, the A429 Kenilworth Road will be closed daily between 9am and 6pm to allow for the removal of the temporary vehicle restraint system, ahead of the final surfacing of the cycle and footways at a later date.

A fully signposted diversion route will be in place. Access for residents, cyclists, and pedestrians will be maintained throughout the works.

HS2 A46 overnight road and lane closures: September and October 2025

HS2 has announced details for upcoming overnight closures of the A46 to support the final safety, central reservation and utility works.

8pm to 6am Friday 26 September - the closure of two lanes northbound between Thickthorn and Stoneleigh.
8pm to 6am Saturday 27 September, the closure of the southbound slip onto the A46 at the Stoneleigh junction and the closure of two lanes between Festival Island and Thickthorn
Saturday 4, Sunday 5, Saturday 18 and on Sunday 19 October 8pm to 6am, a full closure of the A46 between Festival Island and Thickthorn Island.
8pm to 6am Monday 20 October, the closure of the southbound slip at Stoneleigh and two lanes south between Stoneleigh and Thickthorn.

Temporary traffic restrictions & closure of A429 Kenilworth Road: Mon 18 Aug - Sat 20 Sep

From Monday 18th August - Saturday 20th September, there will be temporary traffic restrictions on the A429 Kenilworth road between the Gibbet Hill road roundabout - Common Lane junction.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday 18th August - Tuesday 26th August.
The road will then be closed from Tuesday 26th August - Saturday 20th September.

A46 overnight closures near Kenilworth: Sat 2nd - Sun 3rd & Sat 16th - Sun 17th August

To complete the final works on the vehicle safety system and central reservation, a section of the A46 from the Stivichall Interchange (Festival Island) to the Thickthorn Island (A452 for Leamington and Kenilworth) will be closed overnight on two weekends. Closures will take place each night from 8pm - 6am on:

Saturday 2 - Sunday 3 August
Saturday 16 - Sunday 17 August

A contingency date in September will be reserved in case of delays.

UPDATED: Temporary closure of A429 Kenilworth road: Monday 2nd June - Sunday 28th June

UPDATE: The team has made considerable progress, and the new bridge and permanent road will be opened to traffic on Saturday 28 June.

The closure planned from Monday 30 June 2025 to Sunday 20 July 2025 is no longer required and the A429 will remain open until late summer. There will be one more closure of the A429 to carry out final construction works with dates to be confirmed.
