Planning the Warwick Programme

The university is currently a hive of activity and planning, as we get ready for the year ahead, with City of Culture launching on the 15th of May 2021. Well, I say ‘the university’ but of course we are actually all getting on with this work from our homes as we continue to face the challenges of planning for the most complex and ambitious set of public engagement projects the university has ever delivered in the city in the context of current lockdown restrictions.

Free tickets for the Festival of Social Science now available

  • Free online events from podcasts, audio plays, and digital exhibitions, to online artworks, show and tell sessions and interactive mapping will be hosted by Warwick researchers next month as part of the 2020 ESRC Festival of Social Science
  • The annual festival is going online this year so that Coventry and Warwickshire residents can enjoy the events without worrying about social distancing
  • The UK-wide festival aims to share the latest economic and social science research with the public through entertaining and engaging events.
  • The University of Warwick is hosting 17 events from 7 – 15 November 2020

Coventry Creates - Launch of Digital Exhibition

A showcase of work by Coventry artists, funded by the city’s universities and produced during lockdown, will launch online next week (Monday 5 October).

The digital exhibition, Coventry Creates, will show the work of 18 local artists who worked in collaboration with researchers from Coventry University and the University of Warwick, as part of a commissioned project funded by the two institutions. The public will be able to view the works from 12 noon on Monday 5 October at coventrycreates.co.uk

City of Culture - Culture Conversations - Peace

In light of International Day of Peace this Monday 28th September, this month’s Culture Conversations will be on the topic of Peace. We’re holding it on Zoom this Tuesday 29th at 1-2pm. It will be led by Laura Nyahuye, a Coventry artist and designer, who has written a poem (available as YouTube video or written PDF) to help people consider this month’s provocations before they join the session.

New Dates for City of Culture announced

A large sign showing a poem in Coventry City CentreCoventry City of Culture Trust, today announced that it will officially commence its programme in May 2021 and run for a whole year. Co-created with national and local partners, and grassroots organisations across the city, the programme will include major international artistic events, world premieres and commissions across theatre, music, dance, literature, comedy and visual art.
