RESONATE FESTIVAL – NOVEMBER | COVENTRY IN THE WORLD
This month’s Resonate Festival theme is COVENTRY IN THE WORLD – Coventry is here, there, everywhere… a city which is enriched by the diverse communities that have made their home here. At Warwick, we have staff and students from all over the world and our research reaches all around the globe too. This month we will bring the world to Coventry and take Coventry out to the world. Resonate is celebrating this global diversity and highlighting a series of festivals and events that share a wealth of research, engagement and inclusivity.
Festival of Social Science 2021 | throughout November | various locations
Committed to showcasing the importance of environmental issues in a variety of events, Warwick is running 14 events focussing on climate change and environmental social science studies. Events include Food for Thought: the Climate Cost of Our Eating Habits, I:DNA - Who am I?, The Age of Consent, Sharing childbirth experiences: choices, challenges and conversation, Uncovering the world of 'fake' drugs.
The Human Library | Wednesday 17 November | 3-6pm | University Campus Library
An extraordinary and unique opportunity to put yourself in someone else’s shoes – join the open, honest, and respectful conversation with Human Books.
IDNA: Who Am I? | Saturday 20 November | 10am – 4pm | Leamington Spa Gallery & Museum
Interactive games and craft activities for all ages, this day long, free event invites an exploration into identity and genetics that brings science to life. Free event – workshop booking required.
Warwick Prize for Women in Translation | Wednesday 24 November | 6.30pm | Coventry Cathedral
The Warwick Prize for Women in Translation is awarded annually to the best eligible work of fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, work of fiction for children or young adults, graphic novel, or play text, written by a woman, translated into English by a translator (or translators) of any gender, and published by a UK or Irish publisher.
Screening Rights Film Festival | 25 – 28 November | various locations and times
The Midlands’ first international festival of social justice film exploring the potential and power of film to entertain, educate and inspire by bringing some of the most compelling recent films and opening them up fully for discussion through the high-powered, expert-filled, panels following every screening.
Feelings of Freedom | Thursday 25 & Friday 26 November | Warwick Arts Centre
A series of exciting and accessible conversations, film, debate, provocations, short talks, performances and interviews for all audiences. From human rights to the right to roam, free trade to modern-day slavery, identity, culture and religion to war and empire, sustainable travel to space travel and censorship to emancipation. And, look out for Feast Festival – Food For the Soul running throughout November and December… An exciting showcase from Coventry's global restaurants around the history, ingredients, preparation and meanings of dishes and beverages used for celebrations by different cultures. Sharing the love and what’s on the menu in our area, discover a feast of food in partnership with representatives of the region's hospitality sector and food / drink producers and the history and meaning behind lots of different festive dishes.
