Modern Mercia: Post-war art and design in Coventry and Warwickshire 1945-1970 is an exhibition showcasing paintings, sculpture, architectural designs and homeware owned by Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry Cathedral, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, the University of Warwick’s art collection and private collectors.

A collaboration between a curator at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum and Professor Louise Campbell from History of Art at the University of Warwick, this project combines expertise in order to create an exhibition examining post-war art and design in a regional (rather than national) context. It lends a valuable historical dimension to the City of Culture’s programme, and provides a model for cooperation between different cultural organisations in the region.

The project is led by Professor Louise Campbell from History of Art at the University of Warwick, and funded by the Warwick Institute of Engagement as part of their City of Culture Public Programme of events.
