Warwick to provide 20 scholarships for refugees

The University of Warwick recently announced it would be immediately offering 10 student scholarships for refugees seeking a place at university to study or research this academic year, with a commitment to offering a further 10 student scholarships for refugees the following academic year.

Although the scholarships will consist of a mix of postgraduate and undergraduate studentships, it is expected in the first year that the majority of places are likely to be postgraduate opportunities, due to the imminent start of the new academic year.

In a joint statement from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Nigel Thrift, and the Provost, Professor Stuart Croft, Warwick presented its commitment to provide the student scholarships, stating:

‘We strongly believe that we as a university community have an inherent responsibility to shape a more accepting society, and we must never neglect that responsibility. We will work unstintingly to support those who need a welcoming hand in this very difficult time’.
