Volunteering Opportunities

We are looking for volunteers to support disadvantaged primary and secondary school pupils with English and Maths tutoring to help them reach their potential.

You will work with one or two pupils for an hour a week across the course of a school term; either before, during or after the school day. Sessions will take place online at the same time each week; we also have one-off volunteering opportunities.

Location

Volunteering is carried out online from home

You can find more information on our website https://actiontutoring.org.uk/

Time Commitment

1 hour a week in school term time for a minimum of 8-10 weeks, plus 10-20 minutes of preparation time each week is recommended (all tutoring resources are provided).

Requirements

We look for volunteers who have or are studying for a degree (in any subject) and have a B grade (or above) at A Level (or equivalent qualifications) in the subject they wish to tutor. English or maths-related A Level subjects are also considered, such as: history, politics or sociology (for English tutors) and physics, chemistry and economics (for maths tutors).

As a tutor, you need to have good communication skills and be a fluent English speaker. You’ll need to be willing to make your sessions engaging and interactive.

If your qualifications do not match these requirements, we would still encourage you to apply. Once we review your answers we may then arrange a call with you to find out more.

Training

No prior experience necessary. You will be given a two-hour initial training session; plus an additional hour’s training on our online platform and resources before starting a programme. You will also have the support of the Action Tutoring staff, including a Programme Coordinator, who will attend tutoring sessions.

This is an external opportunity

Warwick Volunteers cannot be held responsible for external volunteering opportunities advertised, but we do make every effort to ensure that all the information we publish is accurate. We advise volunteers to use their own judgement when selecting potential opportunities, and to check all details concerning prospective volunteering activity with the organisation involved. Please make sure that you have received all necessary training and information regarding your own health and safety before commencing volunteering.
