Attention Message

They provide training that would be useful in both Service as well as civilian life and foster a spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

Time Commitment
Block 3 text

This varies dependent on your interests and personal commitments. Committee members may do as little as 2 hours a month, whereas uniformed RAFAC commissioned officers are expected to do >12hrs a month....and there are roles for everything in between.

Typically squadrons parade on two weekday evenings from 19:00-21:30 but some one weekday evening and a Sunday morning 09:00-12:30. This will depend on which squadron a volunteer is linked to.

Requirements
Block 4 text

Open to those aged 20 and upwards. No prior military experience required, just enthusiasm and commitment. Anyone who works with children must be willing to undergo a DBS check.

All kinds of people make up the volunteer staff, coming from a range of backgrounds and interests. If you have direct experience of working with young people, or any relevant skills such as flying or gliding, this would be particularly welcome. These aren't essential though, as they will train and support you at every stage.

There are some personal qualities that are essential, such as patience, maturity and responsibility along with an understanding of young people and their needs. You needn't be an athlete, but a good level of physical fitness also helps to ensure you can keep up with the cadets!

Being well organised is essential, ideally with good managerial and administrative skills, along an ability to listen to problems and deal with them tactfully and appropriately.
