What We Do
Unlike the Earlsdon and Ekta-Unity sessions, Cheylesmore does not operate on a drop in basis. The older learners will have signed up to attend a block of three sessions in advance. Volunteers must commit to a block of three sessions so we can match you up with the same learner each session. This gives both the volunteer and the learner a great opportunity to build up a relationship as you work together each week and we find that this allows you to get to know the learners skill level and as such they tend to get more out of the sessions.
The sessions will take place Wednesdays 1pm-4pm. The meetings either side of the sessions will take place Wednesdays 1pm-1.30pm.
Volunteers must sign up to one block (three sessions) at a time.
The dates the first block are: 16th, 23rd and 30th January. There is an initial meeting on the 9th January which will provide some information about the sessions. We will also have a meeting on the 6th February once the sessions have finished to go through the reimbursement forms and hours log.
The dates the second block are: 20th and 27th February and 6th March. There is an initial meeting on the 13th February which will provide some information about the sessions. We will also have a meeting on the 13th March once the sessions have finished to go through the reimbursement forms and hours log.
Including travel, these sessions will take approximately three hours. All of the hours you spend volunteering can be recorded on your Volunteering Log.
Remember that if you complete 20+ hours of volunteering in a single academic year, you can apply for a WV Certifcate and have it listed on your HEAR.
Charlotte is the project leader for the Cheylesmore sessions. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to send her an email at cgnretiredrewired at warwick dot ac dot uk
You can register your interest to volunteer for the first block of sessions here by filling out the form. If you do intend to sign up please check that you can attend all three dates in the first block. The sign up for block two will take place later on in the term so don't worry if you are unable to volunteer for the first block!
Location and Travel
The sessions take place at Quinton Park Baptist Church in Coventry. Everyone travelling from campus will meet at the University Interchange at 1pm and will travel by bus together to the venue. We will be back at the University Interchange by 4pm.
