Volunteering Opportunities
Block 1 text

As a Right to Read volunteer you will work with children one-to-one or in small groups at local primary or secondary schools aiming to:

  • Improve their reading ability
  • Increase levels of confidence and self esteem
  • Inspire a love of reading for life
Block 2 Header
Location and Travel

Volunteers are required for sessions in Coventry, Leamington and Kenilworth schools.

When applying to volunteer for Right to Read, students must specify their preferred location. Allocations are completed so as many students as possible will receive their preferred choices.

We will reimburse travel costs for this project. Visit our travel page to plan your journey to your volunteering activity.

Time Commitment
Block 3 text

Right to Read provides the flexibility to volunteer around your academic studies

Term 1

  • Right to Read training session: date TBC
  • Complete Safeguarding Children training - short online course
  • Complete a DBS check and obtain a Certifcate of Good Conduct (if required)

Term 2

Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one hour per week in school for 10 weeks throughout term two.

Please also allow for travel time to and from your placement school.

Requirements

Fluency in English is essential and being a confident speaker in order to teach the children the correct pronunciation.

An Enhanced criminal background check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

In addition, if you have lived outside of the UK for more than 6 months in the past 5 years you need to obtain a criminal record check from the country you lived in. This is commonly referred to as a Certificate of Good Conduct’.
