British Science Festival 2019 - Be a part of it

Call for applications for the British Science Festival is now closed, however you can still apply for the Family Day here.

The University of Warwick is bringing the British Science Festival to Coventry and Warwickshire 10-13 September 2019. The Festival is a celebration of cutting edge science, featuring talks and panel discussions, as well as hands on activities and workshops. Thousands of people will come together to explore the latest developments in science, and to engage in open discussion about issues that affect our culture and society. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to share the great research we’re doing at Warwick.

The British Science Association (BSA) are seeking proposals for activities to interest non-specialist adults (16+) with a broad interest in science*. This call is open to anyone at Warwick involved in research, including students, postdoctoral fellows and academic staff.

The daytime programme of events will take place on campus. The evening programme will take place in a variety of venues around Coventry, such as cafes and outdoor spaces.

The Festival team curate a diverse programme that explores new research across varied disciplines so this is relevant to all departments. They are looking for thought provoking events that offer new perspectives on scientific topics and stimulate discussion.

If you'd like to get involved take a look at their FAQ pages and the proposal form you'll need to complete (  PDF version of the form available for preparation purposes only). The BSA are keen to support you in making your application the best it can possibly be so you can discuss your ideas with them via one of the Drop in Clinics on campus (details below) or by emailing Jess Simpson at the British Science Association.

Please note the BSA does not provide funding for the delivery of activities and if you will require a budget we encourage you to seek this from your Faculty before applying.

You can also contact Emily Little from Warwick’s Public Engagement Team for support or more information on the Festival.

Submitting your proposal

You should read the FAQs about the festival before completing the proposal form.

The deadline to apply is 17:00 Monday 7 January 2019.

Outcomes will be communicated to applicants in March 2019.

Family Day

*To close the festivities, Warwick will be hosting a Family Day on Saturday 14 September which we’d also love you to be involved with. The day will be similar to our existing University Family Days and include activities for children, young people and parents. We’ll be seeking a wide variety of content to appeal to this audience, including drop-ins, workshops and talks. See this page for more information on being involved.
