Despite it being national election day, nearly 70 alumni and their families took part in the 2009 Taiwan Warwick alumni party on 5th December. The event took place in the auditorium of the Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection thanks to the Chairman of the alumni association in Taiwan, Dr Jay San Chen (PhD Engineering, 2000) who is the director of BSMI. He has kindly offered the auditorium of the venue for the alumni annual reunion party for the last six years.
The party was opened by Dr Chen and two former chairmen, Professor Ming-Shen Hwang (PhD Economics, 1990) and Dr James Ou (MSc MSE, 1994) who carved the Christmas turkey. The delicious food was prepared by the charity organisation Children are Us, an organisation which provides long term care and job training to those suffering from Down's Syndrome, multiple dysfunction and other mental illnesses.
Dr Chen, Professor Hwang and Dr Ou gave short speeches. All of them have made great contributions to the Taiwan Warwick alumni association and they hope that the Warwick alumni network can continue to extend and increase awareness of the University of Warwick throughout Taiwan.
The business hour, the first part of event programme, was presided over by Vincent Wang (MSc EBM, 1998). He invited several alumni to share their vision of alumni association with the other participants, including David Kao (MSc EBM 2000), senior Manager of Navitas Green Energy Group (UK); Jones Wu (MSc EBM 1994), Manager of Opti-Ups; Jenny Wu (1995, MBA) Assistant Vice President of Lung Yen Life Service; Cindy Hou (MA Organisation Studies 2001), HR Manager of HRM Philips Taiwan; Kelly Liang (MSc Economics 2005) Assistant Manager of the China Development Industrial Bank; Yummi Tseng (MSc e2BM 2007), Global Account Manager of Systems Sales & Marketing Dept., Optotech and Gary Lin (MSc EBM 2008), Supervisor of General Practice III, KPMG. The alumni committe election, the second part of programme, was presided over by Edward Hsu (MSc EBM 2006). Members of the committee were elected on the day, the election of the election of the chairman will take place at a later date.
During the event, some alumni were very keen to exchange business cards as there would be three awards for those who collected the most business cards by the end of evening. Rick Lin, Susan Lee (MSc PPM 2006) and Yummi Tseng won the prizes. They each received a t-shirt and university pen which UK STAR brought from the university bookstore. In the end, every participant also received a bag of cookies prepared by Children Are Us and everyone promised to meet next year.
