Apply for Warwick in Africa 2011

Student Teaching Programme

An outstanding opportunity for TeachFirst students to:

  • teach Maths or maths related subjects in secondary schools in South Africa or Tanzania for a period of up to 6 weeks from 23 July 2011; or
  • teach English in secondary schools in South Africa for a period of 4 weeks from 23 July 2011; or
  • deliver Summer School lessons in Maths in Ghana for a period of 4 weeks from 28 July.

You must be a student registered and undertaking the TeachFirst programme, be able to teach maths or English to the UK equivalent of years 8 – 13 and have either:

Previously studied maths, physics, chemistry or another subject where maths is an essential component of your undergraduate degree or postgraduate course or able to demonstrate sound knowledge of no lower than A level standard maths; OR 

Previously studied English or modern languages where language skills are an essential component of your undergraduate or postgraduate course and experience of teaching English as an additional language.

And, you relish a challenge and be able to demonstrate previous experience of team-working and volunteer work.

Posts are unpaid, but essential expenses are funded or refunded and there will be daily subsistence funding to cover essential food costs. Warwick in Africa is wholly funded by philanthropic donations, there is an expectation that each student will raise a minimum of £250.00 for the programme. We will support participants as active fundraisers by providing a pack with fundraising ideas and tools. However, you may want to join 40 of this year’s participants who will undertaking the 3 peaks challenge to fundraise for the programme.
