WGAHK annual dinner 2014 in celebration of WGAHK 20th anniversary

The Warwick Graduates Association Hong Kong (WGAHK) annual dinner and celebration of the WGAHK 20th anniversary was held on 8 November 2014 at the Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong.

The event was well-attended by around 100 Warwick alumni from across the years and friends from the British Council and the Vocational Training Council. Attendees were delighted to meet one of the largest senior delegations ever from Warwick: Professor Nigel Thrift, Vice-Chancellor and President; Professor Lawrence Young, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Ian Rowley, Director of Development and External Affairs; and Stephen Williams, Assistant Director, International Office.

It was a joyful and memorable evening under the theme “Warwick Spirit Lives On”. The event began with a welcome note by Liam Lai, Chair of WGAHK and a keynote speech by Professor Thrift, the Guest of Honour and Honorary President of WGAHK, to share the latest developments and vision of the University. Various senior alumni were invited to share their memories during the distinguished alumni Q & A session including Dr Martin Lee, Warwick Honorary Graduate; Terry Yeung, Founding Chair of WGAHK; Yvonne Leung, Chair of WGAHK (2002-2004); and Nancy Chui, Founding Director of the Warwick Hong Kong Office..

Liam Lai was very pleased to see the good mix of Warwick alumni attending the event. “We are honoured to have the accompany of many senior alumni, as well as an unprecedented large group of fresh graduates for this year annual dinner. Many of them used to be members of the Warwick Hong Kong Society and the Warwick Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society which have close links with WGAHK.”

Wynne Kam, alumna and current Director of the Warwick Hong Kong Office, added: “2015 will mark the 50th anniversary of the University and WGAHK is anticipating to celebrate this milestone with its alma mater and friends from around the world on an even bigger scale than this year’s event. We look forward to welcoming Warwick colleagues from the UK to Hong Kong throughout 2015. ”
