Why are UNISON stewards important?
Stewards are the backbone of UNISON. Without stewards there would be no one there to act as the link between members and the union and to organise and support people in the workplace.
What does a UNISON steward do?
- Talks to, recruits and organises members around workplace issues.
- Talks to members about workplace problems, advises them and keeps them informed of latest developments.
- Represents members in their workplace.
- Gets involved in how your local branch and national union are run.
Can I contact any steward?
Yes - you can speak to any of the stewards (or contact any of the Branch Officers) and they will try to help you, or make sure that you are directed to the right place to get the information you need.
Can I become a steward as my department / building doesn't have one?
We are always keen to hear from people who would like to help by taking on the important task of being a UNISON steward. If you are interested, then please contact the Branch Secretary or unison dot comms at warwick dot ac dot uk.
