Eligibility:
Competition entries must be made by an authorised representative of a registered business in the UK. Eligible businesses are large companies, SMEs, LLPs and registered sole traders. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are lost or delayed, or which are not received for any reason.
Competition Entries:
There is a limit to the number of entries to the competition from any one business, which must not exceed three per business. Where a business has made more than three entries, we will only consider the first three that we have received. It is free of charge for entries to be made. Entries can only be made via our website application form.
The University of Warwick does not, unless agreed with the winners, claim any rights of ownership to entries.The entrant owns the copyright of the entry.
The University of Warwick does not guarantee to use or otherwise make available any entry. The University of Warwick also, in appropriate circumstances, and at its sole discretion, may reject entries that appear to be legally or otherwise problematic e.g. infringe the copyright or other intellectual property or privacy rights of others, are defamatory etc. or for any other reason.
The deadline for receipt of entry submissions is midnight on Friday 26 October 2012. Submissions received after this time will not be accepted. There may be a delay between sending your application and us receiving your appication. While we do aim to keep our website running at all times, we cannot guarantee that it will be available or working properly at all times. We recommend that you allow plenty of time before the deadline to make your application.
Winners:
The winners will be up to 30 eligible entrants who score the highest against a scoring matrix based on criteria such as feasibility, innovation, capability availability, engagement, size and scope.
The prizes in this competition are in the form of up to a maximum of two days' worth of engagement with the University of Warwick. Engagement being a project for example, but not limited to: training, research and development, consultation, experiments, testing, analysis or evaluation for instance. The prize covers the costs of the University providing this project for the entrant. For example, an expert’s time, laboratory time, equipment time etc. It does not cover any of the entrant’s expenses or time on the project, including travel to the University of Warwick.
An assessment panel of judges for each competition will be comprised of members of academic staff from relevant departments of the University of Warwick and an independent member. Decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The University of Warwick reserves the right to decline an entry if the project cannot be completed at the University. Successful entrants will be notified by post or e-mail within one month of the closing date.
The University of Warwick reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of the rules. The University of Warwick in its sole discretion may decide whether a replacement should be selected. In this event, any further entrant will be selected on the same criteria as the original entrant and will be subject to these rules.
The prize will not be transferable or exchangeable for cash or any other prize and is only valid for the competition entry which leads to an agreed project. The project must be completed within six months of notification which will include a confirmed description of the accepted engagement and associated timescales. The entrant and the University will agree the project scope confirmed by signed contract. Entrants can download an example contract here. Winners will also be required to sign forms confirming business assistance etc under the Science City Research Alliance programme.
Entrants should note that any financial assistance provided in relation to the prize is de minimus aid. Winners must retain a copy of their application form and their award letter.
As noted above, the winners costs are not covered under this competition and does not cover the entrants/winners costs. For example, all staff time, travel, expenses, materials provided by the entrant's/winner's, taxes, insurances, transfers, and other costs incurred by the winner are at the winner’s expense.
The University of Warwick cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the competition or as a result of accepting any prize.
Publicity and Confidentiality:
Entrants are advised not to include any confidential information in their entry to the competition, However provisions for confidentiality will be covered in the subsequent contract between the winners and the University of Warwick.
Winners may be requested to take part in promotional activity and the University of Warwick reserves the right to use the names and addresses of winners and photographs in any publicity. The full list of the winning businesses will be available on the competition website.

This competition is being run as part of a programme under the Science City Research Alliance (SCRA), a strategic partnership between the University of Warwick and the University of Birmingham, which was funded under the ERDF Operational Programme 2007-2013 and which has been co-funded by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and includes other important partners such as the Wellcome Trust, the Wolfson Foundation, the MRC and the NHS. The programme has provided facilities and technologies available for research and teaching in the West Midlands that will drive a vibrant knowledge-led economy and deliver new models of partnership with the industrial base. This competition is intended to encourage new engagements with the University of Warwick and new businesses it has not collaborated with before; and/or in new areas.
