This Saturday is the third round proper of the FA Cup and local Midlands Conference Premier club Tamworth FC have drawn Premiership side Everton. In preparation for the big game, Tamworth has been taking full advantage of the top-class training facilities on offer at the University of Warwick’s Football Centre.
Tamworth Manager Marcus Law said: “We’ve had a really good run through qualifying to this third round of the FA Cup and relish the challenge of playing Everton. I know we’re part of this big David & Goliath story but we’re just keeping positive about the day and are going out there to enjoy the experience of playing a top flight team at Goodison Park.
“Training here at the University of Warwick has been a great chance for us to really focus on our preparation for the game, not just physically but mentally too. We really like the facilities here at the Football Centre, the pitches are in great condition and the staff have been really great, so welcoming and helpful. We train here every Thursday and it makes a real difference to the experience my players get every week."
Deputy Director of Sport, James Ellis said: “We were delighted when Tamworth are here training with us at the Football Centre. We have a fantastic facility that clubs like Tamworth share with other elite England groups and English clubs. This at the same time gives our students a opportunity to play and train on some of the best football facilities in the UK. With a big cup game on the horizon we hope we’ve given the squad the perfect environment to prepare for the match.
“Our Football Centre with its 6 FIFA standard pitches and the Football Centre building allows us to cater for several teams at once and we regularly play host to the Football Association elite age group squads, Premier League Tournaments, English club pre-season training camps and the Premier League Referees. Our relationship with Warwick Conferences allows us to offer 3-4* accommodation within walking distance of the Football and ancillary sport facilities. We have also been designated an Official Training Venue for the London 2012 Olympics and will be hosting many of the Olympic Football Teams here as they prepare for games at the City of Coventry Arena.
"We are well set-up to host teams preparing for big matches, such as this FA Cup game and were very pleased to host Tamworth, we wish them all the very best of luck this weekend and look forward to our continued relationship."
