Submission

With Effect from 2016/17 there will no longer be a requirement to submit hard copies of summative essays or dissertations unless requested by your Seminar Tutor.

E-submission

Use this link to access Tabula, the ‘coursework management’ system which will enable you to submit your essays/assignments. When you get to the ‘coursework management’ system, you will be presented with a screen which lists all the essays/assignments that you are due to submit this year under the heading ‘Your assignments’. The list is annotated to show those essays which are due, those which you have already submitted and any which are over-due. This only applies to summative work (all first year essays, second year long essays, and final year long essays and dissertations).

Click on individual assignments to view or upload your essays, as appropriate. You will be asked for a word count. Please enter this as a number (with no commas or spaces), e.g. 4500.

After you’ve submitted your work, the system will send an email to your Warwick email account to confirm your submission.

If you have difficulties submitting please contact Andrea Humber (Academic Administrator): a dot e dot humber at warwick dot ac dot uk.

Word Length

The word length for long essays (for first and second year options and for final year modules if relevant) is 4,500 words.

The word length for final year dissertations 9,000 words.

The word length for CAS year abroad dissertations is 8,000 words.

The word limit does not include footnotes and bibliographies (or appendices if relevant).

There are severe penalties for exceeding the word length. See here. The Department regularly checks the word length of essays via the esubmission system on Tabula.

Extensions

Students are expected to plan their schedules allowing for the possibilities of minor disruptions in the writing period. Extensions for summative assessed work may only be granted for serious medical issues, or for severely difficult personal circumstances. Computer failure is not a valid reason for an extension and students are encouraged to back up their work regularly, and on an external or virtual device.

All extension requests need to be supported by medical, counselling, or other appropriate evidence. Requests for extensions should be applied for via Tabula.

Extensions are only granted if applied for in advance of the deadline. If this has not been possible, then the CAS Special Circumstances committee may agree to waive any lateness penalties if evidence is submitted.

PLEASE NOTE: EXTENSION REQUESTS ARE ONLY ACTIONED MONDAYS-FRIDAYS 9AM-5PM. YOU WILL NOT GET A RESPONSE OUTSIDE THIS TIMESCALE, HOWEVER THE DATE AND TIME THAT THE REQUEST WAS MADE IS LOGGED.

The responsibility for granting extensions is as follows:

  • First year summative work (all short and long essays): First Year Co-ordinator
  • Intermediate and final year work (long essays and dissertations): Director of UG Studies
  • For non-assessed formative work please contact the module director for extensions
