This final-year undergrduate Advanced Option will help students understand the social construction of the landscape of the United States, by examining ideologies of space, landscape practices, the representations of nature, and technological transformations of natural and urban environments between 1776 and the present time. The goal is to learn to integrate American political and social history with the formation of different landscapes, so that one can understand the landforms and central symbolic spaces of the US as the embodiment of cultural values.
