Message from the Head of Department
A very warm welcome to all of our offer holders. We are aware that some of you might have reservations about Warwick given the recent press around an incident last year involving several students. As a Department we are united in our opposition to the behaviour of those students, and I wrote to the Vice Chancellor back in February to register our deep concerns. We welcome the results of the Independent Review which has recently been completed, and look forward to working together with students to ensure that all are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.
Please rest assured that our department is a friendly and safe space to study. Both staff and students are committed to values of wellbeing, respect, and dignity, and we take our pastoral responsibilities for students extremely seriously. All students in Classics and Ancient History have a dedicated personal tutor in addition to a departmental-level Senior Tutor who oversees pastoral care. The University also offers a range of Wellbeing Support Services and is committed to Dignity at Warwick.
If you or your parents have any concerns I would be very happy to talk them through with you. Please email me with your contact number and I will get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org .
I look forward to meeting you soon,
Prof Zahra Newby
