Clive Letchford completed his degree at St John's College Cambridge in 1983 and went on to pursue a career in the City. He took a year out to complete a PGCE in 1997 and then taught in Latin and Greek in schools before joining the department at Warwick. Clive Letchford also has experience of intensive language teaching on the Joint Association of Classics Teachers Greek Summer School and as a Principal Examiner on Greek for Oxford Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts Examinations at A level, and has published jointly an anthology of Greek texts for OCR GCSE for Bloomsbury and a translation of Aristophanes's Frogs for CUP.
He has been a member of the Department since 2009.
He is interested in commuicative methods of teaching and is the first person in UK university to use spoken Latin as part of his approach for beginners in the language. He also conducts optional reading classes entirely in Latin for more advanced students.
