Course Regulations Q8V7 Classical Civilisation with Philosophy

Three years full-time study leading to the degree of BA (Honours) in Classical Civilisation with Philosophy (Q8V7) or of BA (Pass) in Classical Civilisation with Philosophy (Q8V5).

Degree credits weighting:

Year 1: 0%, Year 2: 50%, Year 3: 50%

Year One

120 CATS in total. You are required to pass ALL modules in order to proceed to Honours.

  • Core Modules: Roman Culture and Society (CX110-30); Greek Culture and Society (CX109-30); Reason, Argument and Analysis (PH146-15); Introduction to Ancient Philosophy (PH140-15)
  • Optional Core Module: Latin OR Ancient Greek at the appropriate level: Latin Language (CX115-30); Latin Language and Literature (CX101-30); Latin Literary Texts (CX136-30); Greek Language (CX120-30); Greek Language and Literature (CX126-30); Greek Literary Texts (CX106-30)

Year Two

120 CATS: 90 CATS (3 modules) from Classics & Ancient History AND 30 CATS (1 module) from Philosophy. Students may request permission to take 2 modules (60 CATS) from Classics & Ancient History and 60 CATS from Philosophy.

  • Core Module: Hellenistic World (CX251-30)
  • Core Module: History of Modern Philosophy (PH201-30)

  • Optional Core Module: 30 CATS module from LIST B.
  • Optional Module: 30 CATS from LIST A or LIST B

Year Three

120 CATS: 120 CATS (4 modules) from Classics & Ancient History. Students may request permission to take 30 or 60 CATS from Philosophy.

  • Core Module: Dissertation (CX303-30)
  • Optional Core Module: 30 CATS from LIST B.
  • Optional Core Module: 30 CATS from Philosophy
  • Optional Modules: 30 CATS from LIST A or LIST B
