Course Regulations QQ36 English Latin

Three years full-time study leading to the degree of BA (Honours) or BA (Pass) in English and Latin Literature QQ36.

The final cohort of students on this degree pathway will complete in 2019/20; it is replaced for students entering the Dept from Oct 2018 with the new Classics and English degree pathway.

Degree credits weighting:

Year 1: 0%, Year 2: 50%, Year 3: 50%

Year One

120 CATS: 60 CATS from Classics & Ancient History; 60 CATS from English. You are required to pass ALL modules in order to proceed to Honours.

  • Core modules: Roman Culture and Society (CX110-30); Latin Literary Texts (CX136-30); Epic into Novel (EN101)
  • Optional core module: EITHER Modes of Reading (EN122-30) OR Medieval to Renaissance English Literature (EN121-30)

Year Two

120 CATS: 60 CATS Latin-text options from Classics & Ancient History; 60 CATS from English

  • Core Module: Romantic and Victorian Poetry (EN227-30)
  • Optional Core Modules: TWO of: Humanism (CX261-30); Vulnerable Body (CX264-30); Transformation of Roman Society under Augustus (CX255-30); Politics and Poetics (CX266-30); The Roman Empire from Tiberius to Hadrian (CX244-30); Roman Laughter (CX 268-30); Rhetorics: from classical Rhetoric to modern communication (CX271-30); Africa and the Making of Classical Literature (CX273-30); Receptions of Antiquity (CX211-30)
  • Optional Core Module: approved module from English

Year Three

120 CATS: 60 CATS Latin-text options from Classics & Ancient History; 60 CATS from English

  • Core module: Shakespeare and Selected Dramatists of his time (EN301-30)
  • Optional Core modules: TWO of: Humanism (CX361-30); Vulnerable Body (CX364-30); Transformation of Roman Society under Augustus (CX355-30); Politics and Poetics (CX366-30); The Roman Empire from Tiberius to Hadrian (CX344-30); Roman Laughter (CX 368-30); Rhetorics: from classical Rhetoric to modern communication (CX371-30); Africa and the Making of Classical Literature (CX373-30); Receptions of Antiquity (CX311-30)
  • Optional Modules: Approved module from English; EN320-30 Dissertation OR CX303 Dissertation
