Assessment

The module is examined by:

a) 1-hour paper in the Winter session of examinations, which counts for 33% of the final mark (one set text);

b) 2-hour paper in the Summer session of examinations, which counts for 66% of the final mark (two set texts).

In the Winter examination, students will be expected to translate an extract from the first set text (Homer), to explain grammatical forms and constructions, and to comment on points of interest in style, content or interpretation in the selected passage.

In the Summer examination, students will be expected:

- to translate extracts from the remaining two set texts (Herodotus and Lysias), to explain grammatical forms and constructions, and to comment on points of interest in style, content or interpretation in selected passages;

- to produce a translation of a previously unseen passage of Greek taken from one of the prescribed authors.
