Entry requirements for undergraduate study

Course A level typical offer International Baccalaureate Essential subjects
English Literature AAA, A*AB (A/A* in English Lit) 38 points including 6 in Higher Level English Advanced or Higher level qualifications in English Literature, normally grade A (predicted or achieved). A level English Language is acceptable in addition to English Literature, but is not normally acceptable as a substitute. Combined A level English Language/Literature is acceptable, providing evidence of wider reading in literature is shown in your Personal Statement.
English Literature and Creative Writing AAA 38 points including 6 in Higher Level English
English and Theatre Studies AAB + AS Level B in a fourth subject 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English
English and Hispanic Studies AAB 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English
English and French AAA 38 points including 6 in Higher Level French and 6 in Higher Level English. A Level or Higher Level qualifications in French and English Literature. English Language is acceptable in addition to Literature, but is not normally accepted as a substitute.
English and German Literature AAB 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English Literature. A Level or Higher Level qualificatons in English Literature and German. English Language is acceptable in addition to Literature, but is not normally accepted as a substitute.
English and Italian Literature AAB 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English Literature. A level English Literature (or English Language and Literature) minimum grade B. A level/Higher Level Italian is not required. Candidates normally offer a foreign language at A/Advanced Higher/ IB Higher Level, but if this is not possible, other evidence of competence in the study of foreign languages will be considered.
English and Latin Literature AAB + AS level C 36 points including 6 in Higher Level English Literature and Latin. A Levels in English Literature and Latin.
Film and Literature AAB 36 points. Advanced or Higher level qualifications (normally grade A) in either English Literature or a subject with a substantial Literature component.
Philosophy and Literature AAB + AS Level B 34 points including 6 points in at least two Higher Level subjects. A level (normally grade A) or Higher Level qualifications in English Literature preferred.


Access course entry requirements: Access to Higher Education Diploma (QAA recognised) including appropriate subjects with distinction grades in level 3 units. Candidates must meet essential subject requirements.

Offers normally exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking.
