Q&A with literary agent Jonny Geller

You're warmly invited to a Q&A with one of the department's alumni, Jonny Geller, one of the most distinguished literary agents working today. He's represented writers from Nigella Lawson and Robert Person, to John le Carré and Margaret Atwood, Russell Brand to Gordon Brown. He did the equivlanet of our English Literature degree in the department before becoming an actor and going on to work in publishing.

Jonny Geller joined Curtis Brown in 1993 as an assistant after a short career as an actor. He became a literary agent in 1995 after discovering a novel on the unsolicited pile which went on to sell rights around the world. He is CEO of Original Talent, the parent company of Curtis Brown agency, the largest and oldest independent agency in Europe.

Jonny has always aimed to represent the very best writers in every genre. From writers and Journalists Nigella Lawson, Robert Peston, Jon Snow to novelists John le Carré, William Boyd, Elif Shafak, Lisa Jewell, David Nicholls, David Mitchell, Howard Jacobson to actors/comedians Sacha Baron Cohen, Russell Brand, Ruth Jones, Mel Brooks, to politicians Gordon Brown, Ed Balls, Alastair Campbell and singers Bono, Roger Daltrey and Phil Collins.

He was awarded Literary Agent of the Year Award in 2012 before being shortlisted three times. He consistently appears on Evening Standard’s 1000 Most Influential People in London list and was named amongst Britain's most influential 500 people by Debrett's 500 in association with the Sunday Times in 2015 and in the same year as one of GQ's 100 Most Connected Men in Britain” and is the author of a book published by Penguin.
