Cleaning, Refuse & Recycling
Cleaning
The Department’s cleaning is provided by Campus Cleaning Services, a team within Estates. Vacuuming and dusting is provided once every two weeks for individual offices, and more frequently for communal areas. The vacuuming and dusting is only performed on empty floors and empty surfaces.
There is a collective responsibility on colleagues to keep communal areas and rooms tidy and fit for use by others. If a communal area or room is used, particularly if that use includes refreshments, the room should be left by the users as they would wish to find it. Any spillages should be cleared up by the users.
Refuse
Office bins are not emptied by cleaning staff. Instead, office staff are expected to empty their office bins into the appropriate larger bins in communal areas. Bins in communal areas are generally emptied each weekday.
Recycling
The Department supports and encourages recycling wherever possible. Bins in communal areas include recycling bins with clear instructions on what should and should not go in each bin.
Additional Bags
Where staff have more refuse and/or recycling than can be deposited in the communal area bins, there are a selection of bags available from the Student Services Office. The appropriate bag(s) must be used and must not be overfilled.
- Paper Recycling
Transparent green bags (previously pink bags) are used for bulk paper recycling. Once filled, they should be left next to communal area bins. - General Refuse
Clear or transparent grey bags are used for bulk general refuse. Once filled, they should be left next to communal area bins. - Confidential Waste
White sacks marked as 'Confidential Waste' are used for bulk confidential waste. Once filled, please contact Dee Parker to let her know how many bags you have filled and which office they are in, Dee will then arrange for their disposal. Alternatively for small quantities of confidential waste, there are confidential waste cabinets in the Student Services Office
