Academic Leave
Academic Staff (regardless of career pathway) at FA7 and above may apply for a period of Academic Leave. The three types of Leave available are:
- Study Leave
- Leave to Accept a Research Award
- Unpaid leave of Absence
Study Leave shall normally be granted at the rate of one term of Academic Leave for every six terms served and shall normally be granted for a maximum period of one year (three terms).
Under the new Academic Leave Policy, it has been agreed that Teaching focussed and Research focussed employees will also accrue Academic Leave in this way, with effect from 1 September 2018.
From the Academic year 2019/20 Heads of Departments are responsible for considering all Academic Leave requests within their Department. The Chair of Faculty is also available to provide advice on the Academic Leave policy and process. More information can be found within the Head of Department guidance.
Once Heads of Departments have considered their Academic leave requests, notification of approved requests should be sent to the Academic Processes team in HR (academicprocesses@warwick.ac.uk), by TBC for 2025/26 leave requests
