MODULE NAME: CINEMA AND ARCHITECTURE
MODULE CREDITS: 15
The aim of this module is to explore the productive overlap between architecture and cinema. It will build upon students’ knowledge of film history and textual analysis by adding a substantial and complex set of ideas concerning modernity, globalisation and the built environment. It will introduce key debates and theories within the fields of architecture and urban studies, and provide a context in which they are brought to bear upon a series of appropriate film texts.
Students will develop the terminology and analytical skills necessary to enable them to produce articulate, effective arguments that engage both with representations of urban landscape on screen, and with the use of moving image arts to critically analyse the built environment.
