British Cinema (FI 318)

In this module you will get the chance to focus on understanding and analysing the national cinema and film culture of Britain. Topics might include the ‘place-image’ of particular UK cities or regions, for example London or ‘the North’; post-war British cinema; and British Art Cinema and its relationship to and inheritance from other media such as photography, fine art, television and CCTV. Focus films are chosen to represent the diversity of British cinematic traditions and texts. Students are able to, in discussion with the module leader, propose essay topics or presentations on films not screened on the module.
