Hotspot-secure Windows 7 Setup

  1. Click on "START" and then "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Network and Internet".
  3. Click "Network and Sharing Center".
  4. Click "Manage Wireless Networks".

5. Click "Add".

6. Click "Manually create a network profile".

7. Fill in as below:

  • Network Name: "hotspot-secure"
  • Security Type: "WPA2-enterprise"
  • Encryption type: "AES"
  • Security Key: <Leave Blank>
  • Tick "Start this connection automatically".
  • Untick "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting"

Click "Next".

8. Click "Change connection Settings".

  • Choose the "Security" tab.
  • If you want to remove the requirement for typing your password each time you want to connect to hotspot-secure, click "Remember my credentials for this connection each time I'm logged on".
  • Next click on the "Settings" button next to "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)".

9. Complete as below:

  • Tick the "Validate server certificate" box and tick "AddTrust External CA Root".
  • Tick "Connect to these servers" and enter:
    • "warwick-wireless1.warwick.ac.uk;warwick-wireless2.warwick.ac.uk"
  • Under "Select Authentication Method", make sure "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" is selected and click on "Configure".
  • Untick "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password".

10. Click on "OK" three times to close all windows.

11. Once within a wireless coverage zone, click on the Network Icon in the bottom right of the screen and select hotspot-secure from the possible connections. You should get an automatic information box which will give a login prompt when selected.

12. At the prompt, enter your IT Services Username and Password.

13. You should now be successfully connected.

Once complete you will be able to access the Internet.


To Disconnect:

  1. Click on the Network Icon in the bottom right of the screen and select "hotspot-secure".
  2. Click "Disconnect".
