Honorary Graduates

In November 2007 the University of Warwick will award honorary degrees to Lady Frances Clarke and Professor Michael Mallett.

Lady Frances Clarke

The degree to be awarded to Lady Clarke recognises her outstanding work for Venice and her unparalleled support of the Warwick in Venice programme since its origins. Lady Clarke is President of Venice in Peril - the British Committee for the Preservation of Venice - and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Together with Sir John Hale, Michael Mallett founded the Warwick in Venice Programme in 1967 and he was its director from 1970 until 1999. The author of books including Mercenaries and their Masters: Warfare in Renaissance Italy and (with Sir John Hale) The Military Organisation of a Renaissance State: Venice c. 1400 to 1617, Michael Mallett is a Commendatore dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
