This module will cover topics such as: greetings, introductions, asking for and giving personal information, ordering simple drinks/foods, asking for and giving directions, doing simple shopping, making a phone call and appointments.
This module will provide an introduction to fundamental features of Chinese and essential basic structures to be used in simple daily conversations.
This course is based on the book 'BBC Active Talk in Mandarin Chinese’. Teaching will be focused on oral communication in various daily contexts so that Pinyin will be used all the way through. To help you taste the real Chinese, the written form, characters will accompany Pinyin in lessons, but won’t be emphasized. Specific cultural background will be provided to understand the language deeply.
In order to be able to communicate efficiently, students are advised to do some independent study following the book instructions outside the lessons. Successful completion of this module will also help students build up greater confidence to take part in formal academic Chinese study.
