Books for student purchase
The best introductory textbook for the module as a whole is: Raymond Kuhn, The Media in Contemporary France, Open University Press, 2011. This provides very useful background to all the topics we explore, and we will also use it as a core text at particular points in the module. I advise you to purchase and read the book in advance (the most practical option will be to use an internet bookshop - there will not be copies in the university bookshop)
In addition, students are advised to purchase and read in advance copies of the following core texts (the most cost-effective way to do this is through an internet bookshop such as http://www.amazon.fr ):
Pierre Bourdieu, Sur la télévision (Paris: Raisons d’agir, 1996)
Bernard Poulet, La Fin des journaux et l’avenir de l’information (2nd.ed. Paris: Gallimard, 2011 ('Folio actuel' collection) - please make sure you select this edition)
Don't worry if some passages of the French books are a little difficult on first reading - if everything was clear from the beginning you wouldn't need seminars!
