Message to incoming visiting students

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Warwick. This is just to let you know that there's no need to panic that you've not yet had details of module choices etc. We will explain the module choice and registration process to you in the visiting student welcome meeting in Welcome week, so the most important thing for now is that you attend that meeting in order to understand the process.

You may find it useful to look at the visiting students page as it outlines some of the basic info for the start of term: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/modernlanguages/intranet/undergraduate/visitingstudents/

As that page explains, after the meeting we will send you a module request form by email which you will need to fill in and return, after having consulted the relevant pages on the SMLC website where we list which modules have spaces (for SMLC modules) and contacting departmental administrators for external depts. to get the same information if you want to study any modules outside of SMLC.

Everything will become much clearer once you've attended that first meeting!

£2.6m goes to Warwick from the new Turing scheme to facilitate study abroad.

The UK Government has announced today (4 August 2021) that the University of Warwick will be awarded £2.6 million for international student mobility, as part of the inaugural Turing Scheme.

world map on hands

Warwick is one of the world’s top 100 universities, and one of the ways it has achieved that position is because it is a globally connected institution. Its staff and students learn, work, and research as part of a highly international community, and more than 1000 Warwick students each year also take the opportunity to study and work abroad at one of the University’s many worldwide partner institutions.

Artists with Benefits – Webinar

Wednesday 28 July 2021, 11.30-12.30pm

Could the benefits system be harnessed to provide a more sustainable and more equitable creative economy? This webinar, and the associated podcasts, consider how the benefits system could support a fairer, more sustainable creative economy. The pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the precarity of creative work for freelance artists, and the difficulties for young people starting out on a creative career, especially those from working class backgrounds.

This webinar features an invited panel responding to issues raised in the Artists With Benefits podcasts – and to questions and comments from webinar participants.

Balsam Bashing Challenge

We will be holding a fun Balsam Bashing Challenge on 23rd June from 1-4.30pm where teams of volunteers will be competing against each other to pull up Himalayan Balsam plants along the banks of Canley Brook. The team with the biggest pile at the end will win Warwick Volunteers goodie bags including branded t-shirts, water bottles and much more!!

Himalayan Balsam is an invasive plant that grows rapidly in tall dense colonies by brooks and rivers. It has large leaves that block sunlight, causing native plant species to die. When Himalayan Balsam dominates the bankside, biodiversity is reduced. With fewer plant species, the brook supports less wildlife, endangering creatures like the fluffy water vole.
