Essay and Dissertation Prizes

The Dr Greg Wells Essay Prize. The Dr Greg Wells prize will be awarded for the two best University of Warwick undergraduate essays or dissertations in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Tutors and examiners will be invited to nominate candidates who have written first-class essays or dissertations for relevant undergraduate modules in the field of Medieval and Renaissance Studies (broadly defined, but normally concerning primary sources from the pre-1650 period). Awards will be announced and given out at a suitable function during the Summer Graduation ceremony period. Next year's deadline tbc (but typically mid-June). Full terms & conditions here.

The Curriers' Company London History Essay Prize - essays must fall within the scope of The London Journal; they may be on any aspect of the history of London, from the Romans to the present day, reflect any relevant approach or disciplinary perspective, and can consider London alone or in comparison with other cities. Open to postgraduate students registered at UK universities, and to early career scholars based in the UK; essays must be based on original research, and should not have been previously published. Maximum award: £1,000.

SHARP - The Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing - The editors of Book History annually award a graduate student essay prize consisting of $400 and publication in the journal to the author of the best article submitted on any aspect of book history. The deadline for submission for each editorial year is 31 August. More details

Medium Ævum Essay Prize. The competition is run annually, with postgraduates and those recently graduated with a higher degree invited to submit an essay on a topic that falls within the range of the interests of Medium Ævum in the medieval period (up to c. 1500). The annual deadline for submissions for the Essay Prize is 1st December of the preceding year.
