Other Sources of Funding for International Students

The University’s Postgraduate Scholarships and Funding pages provide details of a number of other sources of funding; these are often relevant to nationals of particular countries or in particular areas of study. Further information is also available via the International Office . International applicants for a PhD (and sometimes an MA) in Renaissance Studies may take note of the following schemes (note that early deadlines apply):

  • British Council, general funding information
  • Chancellor's International Scholarships are part of a new scheme designed for applicants for doctoral study from overseas (outside the UK and the EU). It provides a stipend as well as full remission of fees.
  • The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (for Commonwealth citizens) supports full-time study at both Masters and doctoral level in various fields
  • The Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund provides awards ranging from £2,000-5,000 to Canadian men and women for academic and artistic study in the UK
  • The General Sir John Monash Foundation (for Australian citizens) typically has an end-August deadline
  • The Gerda Henkel PhD scholarships 
  • The SSHRC, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (for Canadians); early deadlines apply (circa October / November)
  • The Marshall Scholarships (for American citizens): the application and rules for the Scholarships are available on their website; annual deadlines have historically been at the beginning of October
  • The US-UK Fulbright Commission awards (for American citizens)
  • The Royal Belgian Benevolent Society offers a limited number of small awards to postgraduates of Belgian nationality who wish to study in the UK but have difficulty in meeting the costs involved. Annual deadline typically April
  • The Anglo-Danish Society administers scholarships for Danish students wishing to study in the UK, annual deadline circa early Spring
  • The DAAD offers scholarships for German students wishing to study in the UK; see also the German Historical Institute London for similar funding opportunities
  • Il Circolo in London offers scholarships for postgraduate study to Italian students or to students of other nationalities pursuing Italian-related topics
  • UK Council for International Student Affairs, general funding information
  • Li Xiaoming Scholarship. As well as being an outstanding student and from the People's Republic of China, this scholarship will be awarded to the student who is able to demonstrate how their study at Warwick and future career will contribute to society. Deadlines typically in March
  • Chevening Scholarshipsare the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. These scholarships will support MA study for non US/EU students. Full eligibility criteria list here
  • Banco de Mexico FIDERH (for Mexican nationals) Warwick awards scholarships of a 20% reduction in tuition fees to successful awardees of the FIDERH programme
