Liberal Arts welcomes new Head of Department as Dr Bryan Brazeau receives promotion
Dr Bryan Brazeau has now completed his tenure as the Head of our Liberal Arts department; a responsibility which he has held since 2021. He has now passed on the mantle to Dr William Rupp, who has been an Associate Professor in the Liberal Arts department for four years.
Dr Brazeau, who first joined Liberal Arts at Warwick in 2017, has led Liberal Arts through many significant changes and challenges during his tenure, including navigating the department through the difficult COVID-19 period, the setup of the Liberal Arts Venice programme, and the launch of the new Liberal Arts and Science degree programme.
He has also accomplished many significant feats that have helped Warwick’s Liberal Arts programme receive both national and global recognition, such as outstanding NSS results three years in a row and the first ever international ‘Nurturing Hope’ conference on Liberal Education. He will continue to teach on the Liberal Arts course, in addition to taking on the exciting responsibility of the new Academic Director for Warwick Venice Centre.
Dr Brazeau has been succeeded by Dr William Rupp, who has been at the University since 2006 and joined the Liberal Arts department in 2021. Dr Rupp’s tenure officially began in September 2025, and as tradition with Head of department roles, will be expected to hold the post for four years.
Dr Brazeau commented:
“I'm very pleased that not only do I get to pass the torch on to my brilliant colleague Dr William Rupp, but at what we have both been able to achieve over the last few years. Together, we've achieved the highest NSS results in the University in 2025, consistently strong placement in programme rankings for the past three years (1st in the UK for Student Experience and Teaching Quality), and, above all, our team has managed to craft an educational experience that draws on the greatest aspects of the Liberal Arts tradition; that is transdisciplinary, creative, civic-focussed, innovate, and supports each and every one of our students, encouraging their individual flourishing and seeing them as a holistic learner for life.
I can't wait to see the growth that the team will go on to achieve under Will's excellent stewardship, and very much look forward to contributing wherever I can.”
Dr Rupp also commented:
“Under Dr Bryan Brazeau’s leadership, our Liberal Arts programme has flourished. His work has enabled us to create and maintain a community where students not only excel in their studies but also feel secure and empowered to take their own intellectual journeys. The team he has built up are excellent and it’s a real joy to work with such a dedicated and talented group of colleagues. I’m very much looking forward to continuing his legacy while also leading Warwick Liberal Arts into its second decade. Being able to work with and support our amazing students is a privilege, as is the opportunity to lead this programme.”
