On 19^th-23^rd June, as part of a strategic project funded by the Warwick Innovation Fund and the Warwick International Partnership Fund, GSD organised a 5-day academic field trip to Brussels, focused on past, present and future global sustainable development challenges and responses in the city.

Nine undergraduates were selected to participate in the trip (and received a bursary for this): five students from our GSD degrees and four students from our partner degree Global Studies at UPF, in Barcelona.

The School for Cross-faculty Studies is excited to announce the agreement of a partnership with the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) for all of our undergraduate courses in Global Sustainable Development. IEMA is the global professional body for individuals and organisations working, studying or interested in the environment and sustainability.​ With over 18,500 members worldwide, IEMA is the professional organisation at the centre of the sustainability agenda, connecting business and individuals across industries, sectors and borders and we look forward to a developing this partnership further in the coming years.

Accreditation means that, throughout their period of registration on any of our BASc undergraduate courses in Global Sustainable Development, students are entitled to free student membership of the Institute and, upon successful completion of their course, they qualify for GradIEMA status. Graduate membership is a launchpad for future leaders within environment and sustainability and offers a range of benefits to support graduates throughout their career. Accreditation by IEMA, therefore, confirms that our ground-breaking courses in GSD offer students a professionally recognised level of knowledge, skills and tools for working in sustainability practice.

Last year, GSD was delighted to establish an exciting collaboration at postgraduate level with the programmes in International Development Studies (MAIDS-GRID) at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, the highest-ranked university in Thailand. This partnership was conceptualised under the Thai-UK World-class University Consortium, funded by the British Council, which aims to bring together Thai and UK institutions for internationalisation and to enhance teaching and research through knowledge exchange and sharing.

MAIDS-GRID at Chulalongkorn and GSD at Warwick both offer international postgraduate programmes in sustainable development and development studies, which share several similarities, including a transdisciplinary teaching and research philosophy, an international student body and comparable programme size.

Dr. Aijan SharshenovaLink opens in a new window, a research fellow working on SHAPEDEM-EULink opens in a new window project at the IGSD, published a book chapter on polity diffusion and regime security in Central Asia. Her contribution explores the politics of autocracy promotion, autocracy diffusion, authoritarian learning and know-how exchange between Central Asian republics and Russia, a regional trend-setter.

The book is published by German publisher Nomos with the support of the the Centre of German and European Studies (CGES/ZDES) at Bielefeld University and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Last week Prof. Korosteleva attended the #ISA2024 conference in San Francisco as part of the #SHAPEDEM, #AGMOW and #WUB-hub projects. It was an amazingly fruitful experience: she chaired and acted as a discussant to a panel on #Community of Relations under threat: #SocietalResilience across #post-#Soviet space, and presented a paper on #Resilience in #CentralEurasia at the AGMOW panel chaired by Trine Flockhart. Together with Dr Chukitskaya she also met with the Association of Belarusians in America (ABA), and discussed a series of book launches with a focus on Belarus and the wider region.
