About me

I am a Warwick graduate and a former Early Career Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study (2016-2017). I completed my undergraduate degree in Art History and Theory (Hons) at Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia (2002-2007) and my MA studies (Master of Arts in International Performance Research—MAIPR. Distinction) at the University of Warwick and the University of Tampere, Finland (jointly awarded degree. 2009-2010). My MA was funded by the European Commission and for my PhD research I was awarded the Chancellor's International Scholarship.

My interest in applied theatre and conflict transformation has enabled me to develop innovative teaching methods and interdisciplinary approaches to the implementation of theatre, dance and performance practice aimed at peace-building in Latin America. My current research aims to understand how and to what extent the future of war-torn societies is envisioned and materialised through every-day performative practices. I accomplish this in my doctoral dissertation, 'Performative Reintegration: Ex-combatants’ transitions towards civilian identities in Colombia', an ethnographically grounded and historically informed investigation of the affective and ideological dimensions of the social-reintegration of former guerrillas and paramilitaries. Creative approaches to conflict transformation have been the object of enquiry in performance, politics and medical studies, and concerns with impact-measurement and cost-effectiveness are a core element in the development of public policy. Drawing on participant observation, in-depth interviews, applied theatre and performance analysis, my research examines social dramaturgies of dignity, equality, love and desire that depend on the creation and implementation of public policy on reintegration, and demonstrates that body-based methodologies can be understood and efficiently incorporated as central elements to enhance conflict transformation processes.
