Introduction to Research Supervision
Who is it for?
Academic staff who will undertake doctoral supervision. The workshop is mandatory for academic staff on probation.
This workshop has two elements; face-to-face and online activities.
In response to feedback from previous participants, this session has now been SPLIT INTO TWO PARTS (with the exception of the Medical School, for whom please see details below):
- A short face-to-face, faculty specific session with an experienced supervisor, exploring roles and responsibilities and potential challenges of research supervision. The session will start with some reflections from the experienced colleague, followed by group discussion providing the opportunity to explore the group's understanding, ideas and concerns about research supervision.
- An online element exploring the University's policy and procedures around supervision and the support available to you and your students throughout their PhD. This includes input from the Graduate School, Health and Safety, the Library and Student Careers and Skills.
Medical School
For Medical School Staff a workshop is run in-house by WMS. For further details of the WMS supervisor training, please contact the WMS Research Degree Co-ordinators on wms.rdcoord@warwick.ac.uk
(Medical School staff are also welcome to complete the online element detailed opposite, if they wish to).
Is there anything else I need to know?
I you have attended, or are intending to take part in, the APP:TE pathway this workshop is built into the Mandatory 2 day Residential workshop, you do not have to attend this separate workshop.
If you need to attend this workshop it will be necessary to attend and complete both parts in order to fulfil the probationary attendance requirements for this workshop.
This Stand-alone workshop has now been discontinued, and has been amalgamated into the APP:TE's Residential course. If you are not already part of this course, and are only required to attend the individual course as part of your probationary requirements please can you email appte at warwick dot ac dot uk directly for information on when these sessions are available.
