IT in Undergraduate Economics Teaching

Economics students make a lot of use of information technology. The work they do towards their degree is designed with the following aims in mind: (1) because economics is a quantitative discipline students need to develop a high level of numeracy, including computing skills; (2) students who go on to employment in the field of economics need to be able to carry out applied statistical/econometric research for which the ability to use specialised econometrics packages is required; (3) most graduates do not become professional economists but many of them work in areas requiring the use of numerical software, like accountancy, and experience of using business software in serious applications gained here gives them an advantage in the labour market.
