bullet Collaborative Learning Enhances Critical Thinking

An insightful article in the Journal of Technology Educat ion that looks at whether there is a significant difference in achievement between students learning individually and student learning collaboratively:

  • on a test of "drill-and-practice" items
  • on a test comprised of critical thinking items.

From this research study, it was concluded that collaborative learning fosters the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills through discussion, clarification of ideas, and evaluation of others' ideas. Both methods of instruction were found to be equally effective in gaining factual knowledge.
