An Experiment in Computer-Assisted Assessment

For the first time in 1998, the Warwick Mathematics Department used computers for weekly assessment in one of its undergraduate courses. The program Question Mark was used on networked PCs to administer multiple-choice tests to 175 students taking a second-year course Number Theory. This is a preliminary report on that initial experience.
