About the Community and Culture Award
WATE Community and Culture is awarded to communities who work together to create, promote and sustain a culture which enables transformative education. People work together to build the conditions for teaching excellence, and a learning environment where all members of the community can thrive and grow as they work and learn together.
Winner - Academic and Professional Pathway for Postgraduate Researchers who Teach (APP PGR)
APPPGR is a six-month, blended, Advance HE-accredited programme supporting postgraduate researchers who teach at Warwick. It provides a supportive, inclusive space for developing pedagogical knowledge, teaching skills, and teacher identity, while working towards Associate Fellowship (AFHEA). Through interactive workshops, reflective activities, and peer learning, APPPGR encourages critical engagement with higher education values, inclusive practice, and interdisciplinary dialogue. The programme fosters community, confidence, and a sense of belonging, with a strong emphasis on relational pedagogy. Run by a collaborative team of educators and administrators, APPPGR has supported over 400 participants in recent years, and is a key contributor to Warwick’s PGR teaching culture and practice.
About the team
The APP PGR team combines extensive expertise in teaching, teacher education, and programme administration. Course leads Oliver and Sara support postgraduate teachers towards Associate Fellowship with Advance HE, while Tina ensures smooth programme delivery. Together, they bring rich experience from education, theatre, healthcare, and academic development to enhance PGR teaching at Warwick
