Standing Conference on Academic Practice (SCAP)

Reframing Academic Practice: Developing Contexts

The 21st Annual Conference took place on the 5 & 6 July 2018, at the University of Warwick

The University of Warwick was pleased to host the 21st Standing Conference on Academic Practice, where participants considered developments in academic practice from a range of perspectives. This year the Conference reflected on the HE policy changes affecting the role of academic practice within institutions, but also the need to think carefully about academic practice in a fast changing international scene, with external speakers who challenged and informed participants and encouraged a critical debate on how academic practice is evolving.

A specific highlight was the after-dinner speech given by a well known, well informed and critical member of the HE sector, Professor Shan Wareing (Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and the Student Experience at London South Bank), who shared her views on political and policy developments affecting university life. Shan is a well known HE commentator, especially in relation to social mobility, regulatory change and gender balance.
