Innovation Workshops start in Week 7

Starting in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2017, a new series of workshops led by our Innovation Fellows will explore a variety of topics associated with innovation and entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship and innovation have never been more important - at a time of global disruption, rapid technological change, economic uncertainty and environmental challenges. The global labour market mean it is important our graduates leave the University with a capability to make pro-active, positive and responsible contributions to society.

Coventry & Warwickshire Business Festival

The first ever Coventry & Warwickshire Business Festival is set to ignite the local business scene.

From 20th November to 1st December the region will come alive with a fortnight of exciting business events put on by local organisations from right across the region.

£3m fund for product-based start-ups launches

Design Idea

A £3m fund for product-based start-ups seeking to scale has been launched by successful entrepreneur Damon Bonser, who made his name selling impulse consumer products.

Bonser, who co-founded product-based business Spinning Hat in 2005 which was sold to GiftRepublic.com last year, has set up the British Design Fund to plug a funding gap he spotted while mentoring start-ups.

The fund, which has a close relationship with the Design Council, expects to make a first close at £3m and will start making investments in late September, Bonser said.

Wellbeing Enterprises one of the UK New Radicals

Wellbeing Enterprises Staff and volunteers at a social enterprise based in Runcorn, Cheshire are celebrating after they were chosen as one of the 50 most radical organisations changing the UK for the better.

Wellbeing Enterprises CIC has made the New Radicals list which is a search led by Nesta, the UK’s innovation foundation, and The Observer to find the top people, projects and organisations offering innovative ways to tackle social challenges. It was launched in 2012 and was run again in 2014.

£800k fund available for Warwickshire businesses

Warwickshire micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) having difficulty accessing loans to fund their growth, are being given the chance to get loans from a new package of funding worth £800,000 from Warwickshire County Council and Coventry and Warwickshire Reinvestment Trust (CWRT).

The small business loans programme is designed to help businesses access investment that will help them diversify or modernise their operations, leading to economic growth and job creation.

FabLab Coventry has landed

Fablab Coventry logo FabLab Coventry has arrived, thanks to a not-for-profit partnership between Coventry University, Coventry City Council, the University of Warwick and numerous other partners from both the private and charity sectors. FabLab Coventry is small-scale fabrication laboratory with 3D printing, laser cutting and more! It uses a "sweat equity" policy that means that volunteering counts towards the use of machines and membership fees.

Enactus Warwick success at Regional Competition

Enactus Warwick Enactus Warwick was one of 53 teams which competed in the Enactus Regional Competitions. Their committment and support helped them tackle rigorous Q & A and saw them through to the Enactus UK National Competition. In April, they will line up with 34 teams competing in London for the national title and the chance to represent the United Kingdom in the Global Final. Innovation Workshop

Workshop 2: How To Start Up

Monday 20 November | 7-9pm | Oculus 1.06

During our second workshop, we will do a group exercise to generate ideas for startups. We'll also have an entrepreneur joining us online to talk about his startup experience and answer questions from the audience.

The workshop will delve deeper into the following:

- Identifying market opportunities
- Gathering insights
- Brainstorming ideas
- The startup lifecycle as expressed by our guest entrepreneur

The "How to Startup" workshop series by our Innovation Fellows includes many practical insights and stories about actual startups and real-life entrepreneurs. It also introduces students to the support and opportunities available at Warwick and is a great way of meeting like-minded individuals.

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs

A cross-border exchange programme which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other participating countries. New entrepreneurs gather and exchange knowledge and business ideas with an experienced entrepreneur, with whom they stay and collaborate for a period of 1 to 6 months. The stay is partly financed by the European Commission.
